Skandinavian party shake
------------------------
One and a half months in a
dream-world... This summer was
something like that. I was impressed
by Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland,
and other countries that I've never
seen. You see, writing those letters,
swapping those disks wasn't for
nothing after all, because without the
contacts this journey could've been
impossible to make. As the parties
meant sure points, sure accomodations
for a few days, and of course I was
interested in the famous skandinavian
Amiga-life (which is said to be the
centre of the scene), my friend and
companion Jean and I haven't missed a
single date.
Let's start it where we did, on the
26th of June, on the train running
full speed to the isle of Samso. Our
main helper was Wolfman of Balance,
who introduced us to some nice chaps.
The train was full of Amiga freaks, it
was very cool to meet Mightymuz/Skid
Row and Zob/Scoopex. The Hurricane
party was quite popular, it was the
biggest hit of the summer with about
1000 dudes. The place - a school and
two gyms - were outstanding, cool for
a party. The organization was not so
bad as some dudes said afterwards. It
was one simple 'mistake' which turned
the Hurricane party into Hurrilame
party. Rumours said that someone
phoned on the school's line for some
hours, so the organizers had to cancel
th big prizes. So you can understand
why were th makers of the summer's
best demos - p.g. Melon Dezign
(S.O.S.), Anarchy (In the kitchen) or
Kefrens (Guardian Dragon II.) -
furious. But back to the subject. We
arrived fine, greeted the friends and
contacts like Trix/Anarchy,
Pinny/Anarchy or Krueger/Kefrens, and
we met some cool new dudes. It was
nice to meet the polish
Mr.Root/Sanity, who attends almost all
parties; with a good car which helped
a lot with getting down to the beach.
Yeah, monitors and fancy vectors
weren't all the fun for us, but the
bright sun, the blue sea and the girls
were not the last to mention...
Eveningtime lodsa people were drunk,
mainly the ancient gods - Scoopex
members. Then we moved over to the
girls, and we were quite shocked
watching the chicks drinking easily a
box og Tuborgs. Some dudes left off
for the local disco, only Kefrens and
Static Bytes were in their rooms,
checking their productions. Then it
was compo-time, but the demos were
shown on a lame projector. I think
everyone knows the results. We were
happy becauseADT won the 4th prize in
the gfx compo, but unfortunately we
got nothing but friendly handshakes.
Overall, here were the most people,
the best demos and the biggest scandal
of the three visited parties. Perhaps
it was no fun for some people, but
Jean and I had lots of fun on this
paradise island.
The next party was the one called
The Rendezvous, organized by Symbiosis
from the 12th to the 15th of July.
After discovering Oslo, we traveled
with the night train to Mandal so we
could arrive in the dawn. Mandel is
one of Norway's finest city, lying on
the south coast. The people were very
kind, for example the cab took us free
to the party place. Later on seeing
the prices, we couldn't buy a lot of
things, only if I count the burger at
9.00$... Similar to the Hurricane,
the party took place in a big gym,
with fine bathrooms and rooms, but we
only met with norwegians. So the 200
guys couldn't make a very big show.
The soccer compo was my first
appearance after a long sleep, but it
was just fab. I made friends with
chaps like Shade/Devils,
Moxy/Andromeda or a cool back-guard
from Desire and we knocked out the
fearful Crusaders in the final. This
was the first success of the
'Barbarians'. Jean had fun with his
friends from Budapest(!!!), while I
was in the camp making friends. The
compos were funny as only 2
wanna-be-demos competed, so the
musician from TSL, Jason got the main
prize, the Amiga 2000. Although every
important norwegian group was present,
it was a little party on a
scandinavian scale. My best
experience was a f**king cool disco,
where I just couldn't get rid of the
blondies. It's my life...
Then I left off with Jean to
Finland. We met one of my best
friends, Zephyr/The Silents, and we
stepped to the best place on Earth in
a trio. What's thet place? The ferry
between Sweden and Finland! Yeaah! I
haven't seen such a cool place in my
life! Ten floors, 2 cinemas, 580
cars, pool, disco, at least 5
restaurants, cafeteria, night club,
etc. Some people just travel because
the trip between 6 p.m. and 9 a.m.
is sooo wild. Booze and fine girls
made the trip more exciting. The the
24 of us rushed into the party by
Rebels and Complex called Assembly.
It took place in the suburbs of
Helsinki. It really was the biggest
ever party in Finland, the
organization by MeeGosh was perfect if
you don't count the voting. Here we
didn't care much (less) about the
Amiga as the beauties of Finland (old
churces etc.) couldn't let us go.
Everyone who is famous in Finland
attended this party, even some people
came from Switzerland, France, Sweden,
Italy. After th usual greetings the
soccer competition was my fun. I went
around and 'traded' some talented
freaks. We won again, pushing Stellar
back to the 2nd place. Viva
Barbarians! That was for the exciting
part of the Assembly. After a fight
with the Telecommunications Company,
our Aabsolute! demo was on the BBS.
Oh yes, the voting... People were
waiting and waiting, the they got
bored and left for their rooms. So
when the demos were on about 5 'o'
clock only some fanatics were awake.
Originally we should have voted with a
personal code on the main computer,
but finally a jury had to decide.
Guess what? Yeah, 3 finnish demos
were the winners and our demo got the
4th place. But nothing could get rid
of our joy. After leaving Helsinkiwe
had some exciting adventures but
that's another story...
